At the "Deutsches Eck" (German Corner) where Rhine and Moselle meet, Koblenz dazzles like a jewel set in richly varied scenery.

Visitors on the trail of Koblenz's past find themselves caught up in the history of a town which over the centuries was captured by the Franconians, chosen by dukes (electoral princes) as residence, occupied by the French and ruled by Prussia. It is a truly European place!

Take the new aerial car up to the Ehrenbreitstein fortress in Koblenz! At almost 850 metres in length and carrying up to 7000 passengers per hour, the aerial cable car is one of the largest of its kind in Europe outside the Alps. The breathtaking trip across the UNESCO World Heritage Site `Upper Middle Rhine Valley´ and up to Ehrenbreitstein Fortress will be one of the highlights of your visit.

Fortress walls and towers, castles, residences, monuments and parks paint a convincing picture of the city's eventful past. Emperors, dukes and kings have resided in Koblenz. Visitors from all over the world are fascinated by the buildings and cultural heritage they left behind.

Germany is a popular travel destination all year-round, with a typical four-season climate. Winter temperatures vary from west to east, with around freezing temperatures in the west and well below freezing in the east of Germany. Summer temperatures are typically between 20°C (68°F) and 30°C (86°F). In terms of tourist numbers, May through to September are the most popular months to visit Germany. However, the winter holidays with their enchanting Christmas Markets are also a major highlight. Those who enjoy the benefits of uncrowded attractions will favor January through to April.

The weather in Koblenz is continental in the sense that it varies from year to year, meaning a chilly spring and rainy summer one year can be followed by a spectacularly warm and sunny season the next year. The areas around the Rhine and Moselle Rivers are blessed with a particularly pleasant climate which allows the successful cultivation of grapevines.

Long periods of fine weather can be followed by unsettled conditions. To be on the safe side, make sure you bring a sweater and wet weather clothing with you.

Savoring the specialties from this region is a particular and unique experience! Enjoy original dishes such as Debbekooche (potato pancake made of grated potatoes, bacon and onions), or Himmel un Erd (heaven and earth), mashed potatoe, blood sausage/black pudding and apple purée, together with a glass of Federweisser (young wine) from the steep slopes of the Moselle vineyards or the Rhine Valley.
Stop at a beer garden, wine tavern or at one of the many Strausswirtschaften (wine bars selling home-grown wine), look for a bunch of birch twigs tied up with colored ribbons or a bottle hanging outside to show they are open for enjoyable company and the best of local cuisine.
