A center of culture for centuries

Freiburg lies at the heart of a region that has been a center of culture for centuries.

Freiburg is the gateway to the Black Forest. Its peaks, valleys and lakes, churches and monasteries are all within easy reach of the city. To the north of Freiburg lie the Taubergießen conservation area, the Europa theme park and the impressive ruins of numerous castles and palaces.

To the south stretches the Margrave region with its vineclad slopes, wine villages and spas. The wine-growing Kaiserstuhl and Tuniberg regions to the west of Freiburg are also an absolute delight for art lovers (offering gems such as the Minster in Breisach).

Travel time to Switzerland or France can safely be stated in minutes. Neighboring Alsace draws visitors with its many cultural and culinary attractions. Basle, Bern, Strasbourg and Colmar, to mention but a few, are European cultural capitals in the fields of architecture, painting, literature and music. Wining and dining is equally diversified and rich in regional flair.

An excursion to Lake Constance, with its medieval tow and Alpine vistas, is also worthwhile.

Regular bus trips are offered from Freiburg to the entire surrounding area. But an individual circuit tour - by bike, perhaps - is also a delightful experience.
